Plan a Fall Staycation in Burlington!

A staycation is a great alternative to a classic vacation; especially in a time like now when COVID-19 has put a hiccup in many of our travel plans. There are lots of benefits to a staycation though, for example, spending money at local businesses supports them and keeps money circulating in our community! Another advantage of a staycation is less time planning and traveling because all your staycation outings will be right here! If you don’t have a vehicle, or would like to use alternative transportation for your staycation, consider riding Skagit Transit! Not only do they operate daily, but they have contactless payment bus pass options!

Start your morning right by grabbing a bite at Billy’s Café, a Burlington breakfast favorite. They’ve got sweet treats to try, such as cinnamon roll pancakes, as well as savory delights like the classic biscuits and gravy breakfast. If your feeling adventurous (or VERY hungry) take a stab at the Billy’s Bomb Challenge. The challenge is to eat a whole lot of their delicious breakfast food in just 30 minutes. Whether you beat the challenge or fail, you’ll get a picture on the Wall of Fame (or Shame) and a T-Shirt – if you win the challenge the meal is free!

For the perfect fall themed day, the next stop is naturally a pumpkin patch. Frazier/Entrikin Farms Pumpkin Patch (Open Oct. 1) is a great location on a local farm to find a pumpkin to carve, or snap some cute photos of you and your family with the pumpkins!

Next, before you head home and carve , we recommend you stop by Whidbey Coffee for a drink and a snack. Stop by the Marketplace Café, the environment is phenomenal with a cozy fire to snuggle up by with your drink and enjoy your lunch. They always have great seasonal drinks available whether you like iced or hot coffee, or no coffee at all! Their current seasonal drinks are a Pumpkin Cold Brew with Cream, Pumpkin and Toasted Marshmallow Latte, and Caramel Apple Cider. YUM!

After you’ve finished carving, you’re sure to be hungry. Fresh Food 2U is a Burlington catering service that provides freshly made meals with locally sourced ingredients for you to heat and enjoy at home! They’ve got delicious dishes and even desserts that the whole family will love, and all you have to do is heat-n-eat it! You could even heat it while your carving your pumpkin so that you’ll have a hot dinner ready as soon as you’ve finished.

We recommend finishing the evening with a movie night curtesy of the Lincoln Theatres Popcorn Pop UP! (While this one is technically in Mount Vernon, we love to visit our neighboring towns as well!) I don’t know about you, but we’ve been missing that buttery movie theater popcorn. Here is your chance to enjoy it at home, and watch a new movie, all while supporting a local business.
