Exploring Burlington’s Historic District and beyond!
Today, I had the most amazing day. I started my beautiful journey at the Train Wreck Bar and Grill for breakfast. I ordered the smoked salmon omelette with a home-made biscuit served with freezer strawberry jam. The omelette was so tasty and mouth watering! I could tell the salmon was local and fresh. The side of potatoes were just the way I like, browned and seasoned to perfection. The biscuit was soft, warm and moist. The jam was absolutely delicious! Not too sweet but just right. After I finished a couple cups of yummy coffee, I was off to my next destination.
I walked down the street to Suot Farm and Flower shop which is only open on Fridays. I was very happy to be able to explore this cute, quaint and surprising place. I got to meet with the owner, Sarah Wagstaff, and also got to meet one of her collaborators who makes some amazing candles. Every nook and cranny of her shop is filled with something beautiful to look at or smell : ). I enjoyed imagining decorating my house with her dried flower arrangements, wreaths and other cute decor. She grows all the flowers naturally and you can tell she puts a lot of care in each of her creations. She likes to support other local entrepreneurs by selling their wares as well.
After I got my fill of all the loveliness, I started to get hungry again and decided to walk over to the Office Tavern. Wow! What a great spot! It’s so modern, sleek and clean. The decor is very well done and it has a super nice vibe. I got to meet the owner, Tony Pratt, and he is completely hands on and very much involved with the business. He seems to be proud of his establishment and should be!
Next, I walked down to the Apothecary Wellness Spa/ Wild Valley Apothecary and checked out all their fun gifts and services. I didn’t expect to see so many unique items in there. One of the most interesting things I saw was the jewelry that you can add essential oils to. From what I could tell, their products are very high quality and their spa services are top notch. I was definitely considering just dropping everything and getting a facial with their organic tropical vanilla face cream.
I decided the next thing to do was head over to Stowes and check out their extensive shoe collection because what more does a girl want besides flowers, a facial and a new pair of boots!? Not only do they have a lot of varieties of shoes for both men and women, they have high quality clothes as well. The store is clean, well laid out, fully stocked and the staff is so friendly! I understand why they are one of the oldest successful businesses in Burlington. Wow, what a day so far!
I got in my car, headed about seven minutes down the road and arrived at Skagit’s Own Fish Market. I don’t know if I was just hungry again, but everything looked so good! Their layout was impeccable, their selection was abundant and I wanted one of each! They even had bread from a local woman that delivers fresh daily. Yum!
Last stop is lodging. There are a lot of options to chose from in this city so I had to just pick one out of a hat basically. I chose to check out the La Quinta Inn and Suites and I was pleasantly surprised! Upon entering the doors, I was delighted to see beautiful art on the walls, colorful decor and most importantly cleanliness. The staff was very attentive and accommodating. I was able to see the swimming pool and hot tub, which again was a very clean setting. I saw a beautiful room that had a full kitchenette and nice bathroom. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Burlington. Like most of the hotels, it’s very easy to find and near lots of stores and places to find dining. In case you wanted to have a night cap beverage, wine and beer is conveniently available inside the hotel shop.
All in all, it was a lovely and fulfilling day! I’m so glad I got to see a few of the gems that this hub city has to offer. Check back for more fun date ideas!
