Burlington Community Piano

Donated so that Burlington visitors and residents alike can share their passion for music. Now available for pianists of all levels at the Burlington Chamber of Commerce Visitor Information Center!

Music is powerful. Everyone should be able to access it.
— Käaren Flint: Engagement Manager at Helping Hands Food Bank

When visitors stroll into the Burlington Chamber of Commerce Visitor Information Center, their eyes are now immediately drawn to a recent art addition: the Burlington Community Piano. A labor of love from many community partners, the instrument’s muraled surface depicts images familiar to many Burlington residents and visitors.

Meticulously crafted by local artist and SERVPRO employee, Joel Pasek, each paneled painting evokes a sense of the community and home. Now, pianists of all ages and skill levels can gaze upon picturesque views from the Hub City while serenading listeners with their favorite melody.

All are welcome to visit the new piano and try out a few chords, no matter the skill level! The instrument is now available to anyone Monday-Friday from 9AM to 5PM and Saturday from 10AM to 4PM.

A Labor of Love

When Käaren Flint, an employee at Helping Hands Food Bank, learned of a donor seeking to give away a piano, an idea immediately began to form: the creation of a public piano, available for anyone who wanted to create music, fill downtown Burlington with song, or see a beautiful piece of art.

Käaren reached out to Steph Vervaart, Burlington Chamber of Commerce CEO, to share her idea. Together, they formed a plan. Soon, many like-minded community members banded together to make their vision a reality.

Joel Pasek and SERVPRO of Skagit County volunteered to deliver the piano, while other gracious volunteers, Raymond Rees and John Belatti, undertook the 8-hour process of stripping, sanding, and priming the piano to prepare it for paint. An artist as well as a SERVPRO employee, Joel jumped at the opportunity to apply his talents and brushes to the project. Over the next months, Joel was a frequent visitor to the Chamber of Commerce, working industriously with paintbrush in hand.

SERVPRO employees Zach Christensen, Jason Smith, and Ricky Stacy prepare to deliver the Burlington Community Piano to the city’s Visitor Information Center.

While it is currently available for all to use, the Burlington Chamber of Commerce is seeking individuals to donate a little love to the piano - specifically in the form of a few minor repairs and tuning.

For those willing to donate services, please reach out to the Chamber Community Outreach and Tourism Specialist, Amanda Cronin, at: amanda@visitburlingtonwa.com.
