Heritage Flight Museum

Just a little off the beaten path, away from the hustle and bustle of Burlington Boulevard, you can explore the Heritage Flight Museum in the Port of Skagit.

Upon arrival, you are greeted with a giant old propeller, a US AIR Force plane and a helicopter that looks like it was put to good use.  I can honestly say that I’m surprised I haven’t been here before but I am so glad I came.

I not only learned a lot of the Apollo missions, I was able to glean a lot of really interesting history from the friendly staff who clearly are passionate about being there to inform their visitors.  I really loved the entrance display that shows the many intimate details of the astronauts and their families, including a family calendar of Valerie Anders, the wife of Astronaut William Anders.

I thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the beautiful, well maintained old planes and reading about their stories.  I am so excited to see them take flight, most planes on display are actually still performing regularly!  One staff member even excitedly informed me of their fly days where they have a food truck featured while the colorful planes fly over head.

This is certainly a place worth checking out while visiting Burlington.  It’s a unique, educational and fun place to see for yourself.  If I had more time, I could’ve spent all day there reading the many articles, stories, facts, etc.

Their fly days vary from month to month, but I’ll be sure to check their website so I don’t miss any of the excitement!
